Catholic Apologetics

The word apologetics comes from the Greek word apologia, which refers to "speaking in defense" of something, like a lawyer. A Catholic apologist, therefore, is a person who argues in defense of the Catholic faith. A common misconception is that it has something to do with apologizing or asking for forgiveness.

In 1 Peter 3:15, we are told to "Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you." We should try to better understand our faith, so we can better defend it. Don't think you have to learn everything first, though - that's impossible. Take it one step at a time, and don't hesitate to defend the things you do know.
